Ukraine to Import Coal for Winter, an Industrial Info Market Brief
According to the state customs service, Ukraine's imports of coal, including anthracite, decreased 9.5% year on year to 11.66 million metric tons in the first seven months of 2019. Ukraine, a major producer of coal, lost all of its anthracite coal mines to separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014. One of the largest producers of power from fossil fuels, DTEK, will import between 500,000 and 1 metric million tons of coal before the end of the year to successfully operate and generate power facilities during the winter of 2019.
