SUGAR LAND--April 6, 2018--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $1.9 billion in active Refining projects in the U.S. aimed at complying with the Environmental Protection Agency's Tier 3 gasoline standards, which state that gasoline must contain no more than 10 parts per million (ppm) of sulfur when it leaves a refinery. The previous Tier 2 regulations, which went into effect in 2004, allocated that gasoline have no more than 30 ppm. The Tier 3 regulation took effect on January 1, 2017; however, smaller and certain, larger qualifying refineries can extend the adherence to the deadline until January 1, 2020, meaning that several of the Tier 3 projects have only recently begun construction or have yet to begin construction.
