Project spending activity continues to grow for U.S. steel manufacturers. Capital and maintenance project spending activity has almost doubled since the end of 2017. According to Industrial Info, there are currently $19.4 billion in capital and maintenance projects. This can be tied to favorable demand economics and the Trump administration tariffs on imported steel. New project announcements continue to come in weekly. Most recently, North Star BlueScope Steel and United States Steel Corporation announced major expansions in Ohio and Indiana.
