Historically, power generation in South Africa has been dominated by coal, but the rise of renewable-energy resources--such as solar and wind power--has prompted widespread calls for changes to the country's energy mix. If the IRP 2018 electricity roadmap is successfully implemented, South Africa will transition away from coal to renewables.
