China's newly-commissioned power generation capacity reached 124.39 gigawatts (GW) in 2018. As of the end of 2018, China's total installed capacity was 1,899.67 GW, an increase of 6.5% over capacity in 2017. Hydropower reached 352.26 GW in 2018, up 2.5% year over year; thermal power reached 1,143.67 GW, up 3.0%; nuclear power reached 44.66 GW, up 24.7%; on-grid wind power reached 184.26 GW, up 12.4%; and on-grid solar power reached 174.64 GW, up 33.9%.
