Mexico´s Refining System Suffers Low Production Rates, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Mexico´s new president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, recently announced the construction of an $8 billion, 340,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, with plans for its completion by fourth-quarter 2022. However, Mexico's six existing refineries are barely processing 30% of their design capacity, which totals 1,727,000 BBL/d, design capacity due to financial constraints and a lack of maintenance.
