Measured in megawatts (MW), new-build power installed base startups in Latin America dropped 56% to 2,146 MW in first-quarter 2019 from 4,866 MW in first-quarter 2018. As seen in the graphic below, renewable capacity startups fell 27% to 1,900 MW from 2,620 MW, and thermal capacity startups plunged 89% to 248 MW from 2,240 MW.
