Toyota will begin commercial production of what it says is the world's first hybrid flex-fuel car this year in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. To be manufactured at the company's plant in Indaiatuba, the vehicle will be a special version of the 2020 Corolla that can run on gasoline, ethanol and electric power.
The new Corolla is expected to go on sale by October, and exports will begin in 2020. Export destinations for the vehicle have yet to be announced.
Toyota has confirmed $1 billion reais (US$254 million) in investments at the Indaiatuba plant and 600 million reais at the Porto Feliz plant. The Corolla project qualifies for the São Paulo state government's IncentiveAuto program. Click here for the list of Toyota projects in Brazil.
