According to PepsiCo India's botting partner Varun Beverages Limited, India's soft drink market is expected to continue on a growth curve, as per capita consumption of soft drinks is estimated to reach 84 bottles per year by 2021, compared with 44 bottles in 2016.
Reasons behind the growth are the growing middle-class segment, rising affordability, urbanization and rural electrification, as well as continued innovations in product packaging and sizing. Within carbonates, non-cola carbonates, especially lemon-based ones, are expected to grow fastest.
