Eswatini Calls for Solar Power Bids to Ease Dependency on South Africa, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, imports 80% of its electricity from South Africa's ESKOM, which is in a financial and operational crisis. To meet its growing demand for electricity and reduce its dependence on power from South Africa, the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) has begun a procurement process for 40 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic power capacity, followed by 40 MW of biomass power, in the near future.
