The sugar tax in Pakistan is set to more than double to 17% from current 8%, as disclosed in the Federal Budget 2019-20 announcement to secure the International Monetary Fund bailout funds that will further increase the sugar price to 3.6 Pakistani rupees (US$0.023) per kilogram. The country's mills are expected to produce 5.2 million tons for the 2019-2020 cycle, a 5% dip from the output of 2018-2019 season.
