Philippine Mining Industry Improves in 2020, an Industrial Info Market Brief
Attachment: Philippine Mining 02172020
The Philippine mining industry is expected to grow in the coming years as more permits are approved by the government, a contrast to previous years, which were riddled with open-pit mining bans and moratoriums. Philex Mining Corporation is intensifying its efforts to develop the $1.5 billion Silangan mine project, while Canadian miner TVI Pacific has started its Balabag mine project, a project previously bogged down by environmental permits in 2019. The Chamber of Mines of the Philippines estimates the local mining industry could attract more investment in the coming months as local nickel miners start boosting capacity to take advantage of Indonesia's nickel ore export ban. See graph below for project count by kickoff date.
