India's state-run NMDC Limited is targeting iron ore production of 48 million tons for 2021, surpassing 32 million tons this year, potentially boosting supplies and alleviating concerns of shortages of the key raw material. The growth in supplies will come mainly from its operational mines in Chhattisgarh and from the shuttered Donimalai mine in Karnataka. The government has been trying to boost iron ore supplies by extending environmental approvals for leases of mines that are due to expire soon.
