India's leading vaccine-maker, Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), has partnered with Griffith University, Australia, to develop a COVID-19 vaccine, which could reach the market sometime in late 2021. The partners intend to use codon de-optimization technology to create a live attenuated vaccine, which is likely to offer longer protection with a single dose.

According to researchers involved in the development, the candidate vaccine can also deliver cross-protection against other coronaviruses such as MERS and SARS-CoV-1. Further live-attenuated vaccines have a proven record for economical and large-scale manufacturing. Industrial Info is tracking 10 IIL projects worth $138 million. Click here for a list.
