China's Power Consumption up 4.6% in May, an Industrial Info Market Brief
In May, China's overall social power consumption reached 592.6 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), an increase of 4.6% year over year. From January to May, China's accumulative social power consumption reached 2,719.7 billion kWh, a drop of 2.8% year over year, according to the National Energy Administration.
The growth mainly comes from the tertiary industries (services) and the household of urban and township residents. China's power consumption in the primary industries (agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, and oil & gas production) reached 6.9 billion kWh, an increase of 15.5% year over year; that of the secondary industries (manufacturing) reached 417.6 billion kWh, an increase of 2.9%; that of the tertiary industries reached 89.0 billion kWh, an increase of 3.6%; that in the household of urban and township residents reached 79.1 billion kWh, an increase of 15% year over year.
In the first five months of 2020, China's accumulative power consumption in the primary industries reached 29.7 billion kWh, an increase of 7.1% year over year; that of the secondary industries reached 1,809.8 billion kWh, a drop of 4.0%; that of the tertiary industries reached 429.6 billion kWh, a drop of 6.3%; that in the household of urban and township residents reached 450.6 billion kWh, an increase of 5.2% year over year.
