Biocen Bioenergia Celeiro do Norte SA is awaiting final environmental and municipal permits to start construction on a 250,000-liter-per-day, corn-based ethanol plant in Nova Ibiratã, Mato Grosso. The $115 million investment encompasses three phases in which the production capacity would be doubled and then tripled over the coming years.

In addition to the planned production of traditional byproducts such as DDGS and corn oil, Biocen is also looking to create an agro-industrial complex at the site, which would include cattle feedlots, milk production and an animal feed plant.

Site preparation is set to kick off by the end of fourth-quarter 2020, with civil construction penciled in for the following quarter. Biocen is aiming for the plant to be commercially operational by the second semester of 2022.

Industrial Info is tracking 116 alternative fuels projects in Mato Grosso worth $2.2 billion.
