Gulf of Mexico Offshore Platforms Continue to Shut Down, Evacuate Workers as Hurricane Laura Bears Down, an Industrial Info Market Brief

Nearly 300 offshore oil and gas platforms in the path of Hurricane Laura have been shut down and evacuated, accounting for 46.5% of the manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE). The production cuts have risen to 1.6 million barrels per day of oil and 1.65 billion cubic feet of gas per day, according to the BSEE. The bureau estimates that about 84.3% of current oil production, and 60.94% of all natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico have been shut in.
