The Pulp & Paper Industry uses heavy volumes of high-quality water in paper production, and its effluents contain high contamination. Some of its more than 250 compounds originate naturally from wood (lignin, tannins, etc.), while others are synthetic, incorporated into the effluents in the manufacturing and bleaching processes of cellulose pulps, such as phenols, dioxins and furans.
