Kuwait's KIPIC Starts Up 615,000-BBL/d Mina Al Zour Refinery
September 7, 2022--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--State-owned Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) (Safat, Kuwait) is progressing with the startup of the major, 615,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Mina Al Zour Refinery in Kuwait. According to IIR Energy, the 205,000-BBL/d Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) in Block 1--one of three planned 205,000-BBL/d CDUs--started up in June, is currently operating at 50% capacity, and is expected to begin commercial operations by October 3.
Industrial Info is tracking eight total projects, worth US$7.1 billion, related to the Mina Al Zour Grassroot Refinery.
The Russia-Ukraine war has exacerbated the gap between supply and demand of oil products globally, but starting up one of the largest refineries worldwide would open up Kuwait to help fill the void and alleviate supply-side tightness.
