MINExpo 2016 Wraps Up Record-Breaking Show

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--MINExpo International 2016 wrapped up one of its most successful shows Wednesday, September 28. While final numbers are still being calculated, the latest figures from the office of the National Mining Association (NMA) (Washington, D.C) estimate there were 43,000 registered guests from all over the world and more than 1,900 exhibitors as of Wednesday morning; however, the office told Industrial Info Resources they were still getting calls after that number was calculated from people who wanted last-minute passes.

"We had a great show this year," said Jamie Caswell, director of communications for NMA. "The theme generally was innovation, and all exhibitors did a great job of using that idea to showcase their finest new technologies and products that will ensure a bright future for mining."

Exhibitors filled more than 840,000 square feet in 12 indoor and outdoor halls showcasing innovative solutions, and the latest mining and minerals processing technologies and equipment.

Walking through the show, one could see large-scale filter press displays, water-treatment systems, and crushing, automation, safety and conveying system parts. Some booths were even giving away free massages to promote their safety products. There was even a drone flying around getting pictures of everyone in real time.

One could not miss the larger-than-life mining equipment displays from Caterpillar Incorporated (Peoria, Illinois), Komatsu Limited (Tokyo, Japan) and Liebherr Group (Bulle, Switzerland). Multi-level staircases allowed attendees to walk their way up to the top of the trucks and excavators, and even have a seat inside the cab. There also were simulators set up to anyone a feel for what it is like to control one of these stunning machines.

Caswell said the event highlights included the well-attended opening session, Komatsu's unveiling of its autonomous haulage system, and even a wedding at Komatsu's booth.

On Tuesday, MINExpo officials closed the floor down at 5 pm for the wedding ceremony. Atop a 930E haul truck, Komatsu employee Jesse Townsend exchanged vows with Mariana Balashova.

The general sentiments from most attendees that stopped by the Industrial Info Resources' booth over the three-day event was very positive.

Despite current market conditions, the mining industry appears to be thriving. When Industrial Info Resources attended MINExpo in 2012, it was tracking 3,800 mining projects worth $1.3 trillion. See article from MINExpo 2012, http://www.industrialinfo.com/news/article.jsp?newsitemID=229360. Today that database has grown to more than 10,000 mining projects worth $1.4 trillion.
