California Leads the Nation in Food & Beverage Industry Project Development

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A recent review of Industrial Info's project database, dating back to 2000, revealed that California recorded the highest number of projects within the Food & Beverage Industry when compared to any other state. Since 2000, Industrial Info has reported on more than 465 capital and maintenance projects in California with investment values totaling more than $5.3 billion. Texas and Ohio round out the top three states across the country with 387 projects valued at $4.3 billion and 329 projects valued at $2.9 billion, respectively, over the 12-year period.

Presently, there are 52 active projects in California that have a cumulative investment value of $557 million. Projects range in value from $500,000 to $135 million. There are 19 projects in the planning stage worth $186 million; 15 projects that have been approved and are the engineering phase that are worth $212 million; and 13 projects in the construction phase worth $151 million.

Project schedules call for construction to start this year and as far out as February 2014.

Current project activity is highest in Santa Barbara County, which has seven projects totaling $210 million, the largest being a multi-phased project to build a vegetable greenhouse and processing facility.

Plant owners include the likes of Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY) (Houston, Texas), Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:BUD) (Leuven, Belgium), Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) (Camden, New Jersey), Cargill Incorporated (Minneapolis, Minnesota) and Kraft Foods Company (NYSE:KFT) (Northfield, Illinois), to name a few.
