Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Anhui Electric Power Construction No. 2 Engineering Company Limited (Hefei, Anhui), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), kicked off the erection of a 6.6-kilovolt (kV) switch system for the conventional island of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation's (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) Fangchenggang Hongsha Nuclear Power Plant on July 13, 2012. Leaders and representatives from China Guangdong Nuclear Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen), the general contractor of the project, as well as other related parties, attended the kickoff ceremony, according to an announcement from the CEEC on July 16.
"The smooth kickoff of the erection for the 6.6-kV switch system means that the electrical erection at the site has been officially started, which will create the conditions for erections in later stages," said the CEEC in its announcement.
The Fangchenggang Hongsha Nuclear Power Project, located at Hongsha Village, Fangchenggang City, in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units. Two 1,080-MW nuclear power units that are based on China's improved pressurized water reactor, namely CGNPC's CPR1000 technology, will be built in Phase I, with a total estimated investment of $3.53 billion. The project is jointly invested by the CGNPC and Guangxi Investment Group Company (Nanning, Guangxi).
In October 2008, the project received preliminary approval from the NDRC to allow the kickoff of pre-stage preparations for the project. The Phase I project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on July 15, 2010. Construction of the project then officially kicked off at the end of July 2010. According to the schedule, the project will have a single unit construction period of 56 months, and the first unit of the project will begin operation in 2015.
