CGNPC Completes Dome Erection for Unit 2 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The dome for Unit 2 of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation's (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station, the first in western China, was erected onto its final position on December 26, 2012. With the completion of dome erection for both units in Phase I, construction of the project is progressing smoothly and has entered into a new stage for equipment erection and testing, according to an announcement from CGNPC on December 31, 2012.

The Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Station is located in Hongxing Village, Guangpo Town, Gangkou District of Fangchenggang City, in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The project has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units. Two 1,080-MW nuclear power units that are based on CGNPC's CPR1000 technology are planned to be built in Phase I, with a total estimated investment of $3.53 billion.

The project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission on July 15, 2010. Construction of the project kicked off at the end of July 2010. So far, various sub-projects of the project are progressing smoothly. Dome erection for Unit 2 is the last milestone set for 2012. Following the completion of the dome erection for Unit 2, all 16 primary milestones set for the project have been fully achieved as scheduled, and the accumulative work quantity completed at present is about 52% of the total.

As reported, the dome for Unit 2 has a lower diameter of 37.012 meters, a height of 11.05 meters and weights about 150 metric tons. Successful completion of the dome erection has paved a firm foundation for the works in the next stage.

Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Company Limited (Fangchenggang, Guangxi), a joint venture of the CGNPC and Guangxi Investment Group Company (Nanning, Guangxi), is responsible for the development and future operations of the project. According to the schedule, units 1 and 2 of the project will begin commercial operations in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
