China Huaneng Completes Rotor Erection for Unit 3 in Hainan Dongfang Power Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The generator rotor for Unit 3 at Huaneng Hainan Power Generation Company Limited's (Haikou, Hainan) Dongfang Power Plant was erected into its final position on December 5, 2011, according to an announcement by China Energy Construction Corporation (CECC) (Beijing), the main contractor for the construction and erection of the project, on December 7, 2011.

The erection was performed by the No.3 Engineering Construction Company of Northeast Electric Power Construction Corporation (Jinzhou, Liaoning), a regional subsidiary of the CECC. The successful erection of the rotor has paved the way for the erection of other generator accessories for the unit in the next stage.

Huaneng Dongfang Power Plant, which is in the northern part of Xiaozoutang, in Dongfang City of the Hainan province, has a total planned capacity of 1,400 megawatts (MW), including four units, each of 350 MW, to be built in two phases. Construction of Phase I began in September 2007, and both in units in Phase I were commissioned in December 2009.

The Phase II expansion project, specifically for units 3 and 4, was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on December 13, 2010. According to the approval, the project will be furnished with two 350-MW, supercritical, coal-fired combined heat and power units to replace two 125-MW, small-size, coal-fired units in Haikou Power Plant. Construction began in late December 2009. According to original plans, Unit 3 will begin operations in the first half of 2012. Considering the serious power shortage experienced in Hainan during this summer, the owner has decided to put the unit into operation ahead of schedule at the end of March or in early July 2012. The second 350-MW unit, Unit 4, also will be put into operation ahead of schedule from the originally planned December 2012 to November 2012.
