At least nine petroleum refineries in China are operating at reduced rates, with a total of almost 400,000 barrels per day of crude processing capacity that has been curtailed, according to IIR Energy's new Coronavirus Impact Report.
Most of these refineries were already running at slightly reduced rates due to the annual Spring Festival, but several are now considering the extension of lower operating rates or even idling completely in response to the coronavirus and lower demand.
IIR Energy is closely monitoring the effect of the coronavirus on refineries, petrochemical plants and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Asia.
