Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit (Unit 1) of China Resources Power Holdings Limited's (Hong Kong) Yichang Xiaoting Cogeneration Power Project began commercial operations on March 5 after passing its full-load trial operation, according to construction contractor Hubei Electric Power Construction No.2 Engineering Company (HEPC2), a subsidiary of Power Engineering Corporation of China (Power China) (Beijing). The unit was first connected to the grid on February 21, and it completed the 168-hour, full-load trial operation only 13 days later, which is a new record.
The China Resources Xiaoting Cogeneration Power Project is located in Fangjiagang Village, in the Xiaoting Industrial Park of the Yichang Economic Development Zone, which is close to the northern bank of Changjiang River. The project includes two 350-megawatt (MW), coal-fired units. Phase I will include two 350-MW, supercritical, extraction-condensing, combined-heat-and-power units, together with two 1,125-ton-per-hour, supercritical, coal-pulverized boilers.
The National Energy Administration (NEA) gave the project preliminary approval in June 2010, and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) gave final approval in November 2012. Construction began that same month. The Central Southern Electric Power Design Institute (Wuhan, Hubei) is responsible for the design and engineering of the project. The steam-turbine generating units and boilers are supplied by Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan) and Harbin Boiler Company Limited (Harbin, Heilongjiang).
Presently, HEPC2 is working on the final commissioning of the second unit (Unit 2). According to the schedule, the entire project will be completed in the first half of this year. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate about 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, supply 15 gigajoules to users in the industrial park, and replace 25 small boilers.
