Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The state of Colorado currently has the capacity of producing some 110 million gallons per year of biofuels through five operating bio-refineries. Two additional plants are currently under construction now that Panda Yuma Ethanol, a subsidiary of Panda Ethanol Incorporated (Dallas, Texas), has secured a contractor and started construction on a new 105 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will be located in Yuma, Colorado.
Lurgi Incorporated (Memphis, Tennessee) has been awarded the turn-key engineering, procurement and construction (E+P+C) contract award for this estimated $150 million project and construction is expected to be in full swing within the next 30 to 60 days. Construction is expected to take eighteen months to complete.
The project will also be the second bio-refinery currently under construction in Colorado, joining Blue Sun Biodiesels 2.5 million biodiesel that is currently being built in Alamosa, Colorado. The five operational bio-refineries in the state include Front Range Energy in Windsor (40MM gallons per year); Sterling Ethanol in Sterling (42MM gallons per year); Bio Energy of Colorado that operates two biodiesel plants in Denver (15MM gallons per year total) and Rocky Mountain Biodiesel Industries in Berthoud (3MM gallons per year).
The state currently has another 168 million gallons of capacity under development and that number is expected to grow over the next year making Colorado one of the top biofuel producing states in the Rocky Mountain region.
Two ethanol plants planned by Great Western Ethanol (Evans, Colorado) and Morgan County Renewable Fuels (Bijou, Colorado) are expected to add over 160 million gallons of ethanol capacity when completed and San Juan Biodiesel (Dove Creek, Colorado) and American Agri Diesel (Burlington, Colorado) are planning to build new biodiesel plants soon.
Once all plants become operational, Colorado is expected to have nearly 278 million gallons of biofuel capacity on-line by the end of the 2008 calendar year.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Production Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging synthetic fuels market.
