Construction of 24-Megawatt Windfarm in North Yorkshire to Begin Soon

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Wind Prospect Limited (Bristol, England) is set to begin construction of the 24-megawatt (MW) Rusholme Windfarm in North Yorkshire in the next few weeks. The windfarm will be owned and operated by EDF Energies Nouvelles SA (EPA:EEN) (Paris, France).

The Rusholme windfarm, which will be located in Little Airmyn, 2 kilometres east of the village of Drax and 10 kilometres southeast of Selby, will have a capacity of 24 MW and will be equipped with a dozen 2-MW REpower (Hamburg, Germany) MM82 wind turbines.

The facility, which is designed to be monitored remotely, will dispatch clean, green electricity to meet the requirements of about 14,500 homes, preventing approximately 32,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide being discharged into the atmosphere every year.

According to the project's authorities, the plant should be operational in March 2010 and will have an operational life of 25 years. After this period, the development will be decommissioned and returned to arable land.

The proposed project represents a significant contribution to regional and national renewable energy targets, meeting 24% of the target for onshore windfarms, which consists of between 10 and 20 wind turbines for North Yorkshire.
