Contractor Awarded for ecoPower Generation's Kentucky Biomass Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--AE&E (Norcross, Georgia), a subsidiary of A-Tec Industries AG (WBAG:ATEC) (Vienna, Austria), was awarded the contract to construct ecoPower Generation LLC's (Lexington, Kentucky) Perry County biomass power station in Krypton, Kentucky.

Earlier this year, ecoPower Generation proposed to construct the $150 million, 50-megawatt plant at a reclaimed coal mine in Perry County. The plant will be situated on 125-acre site and will utilize low-quality wood materials, such as sawdust, bark, wood chips and sawmill waste. The facility will not be permitted to burn anything other than wood byproducts. The plant will be the first of its kind in Kentucky.

Ecopower Generation plans to hire as many local workers as possible, with an average of 200 workers on-site. The facility will employ 40 to 50 people when operational.

A 1.5-mile transmission line will also be built to connect the plant to an American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP) substation to deliver power to the grid.

Although the proposed site has received approval from Kentucky state officials, ecoPower Generation still has to submit environmental studies regarding matters such as water quality, air emissions and waste to the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection before starting site preparation later this year. Project completion is expected in 2013.
