Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony for the engineering, procurement and construction general contractor for Shenhua Group Company Limited's (Beijing) 2,000-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Wanzhou project was held in Beijing on December 29, 2012. The signing was between China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (Beijing), and Shenhua Shendong Electric Power Group Company Limited (Shendong Power) (Shenmu, Gansu), a subsidiary of Shenhua Group.
The project, which is located in Xintian Town, Wanzhou District of central China's Chongqing City, is part of the Shenhua Wanzhou Coal Power and Port Integration Project, which plans to have six 1,000-MW, coal-fired units; a 10 million-metric-ton coal storage base; and an associated transfer port. The total investment will be about $3.75 billion, of which the investment in Phase I will be about $1.3 billion.
The groundbreaking of the project kicked off on July 28, 2012. According to the latest schedule, both units of Phase I will begin operations on January 28, 2015, and April 28, 2015, respectively. Upon completion, the project will play an important demonstrative role in the economic development of the Three Gorges reservoir area.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Wu Chunli, the general manager of the CPECC; Wang Pingang, the vice president of Shenhua Group; and Xiao Chuangying, the chairman of Shendong Power. Related persons in charge of Shendong Power and the consortium formed by CPECC Southwest Electric Power Design Institute (SWEPDI) (Chengdu, Sichuan) and CPECC Consulting Company (Beijing) signed the contract.
During the signing ceremony, Wang Pingang congratulated the parties, and wished that all involved could carry out the requirements of Shenhua Group and build Wanzhou Power Plant into one of the world's leading power projects.
Prior to the signing ceremony, SWEPDI also reported the optimization of major parameters and indicators selected for the project during the preliminary engineering.
