Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Leading global chemicals manufacturer Huntsman Corporation (NYSE:HUN) (The Woodlands, Texas) and Zamil Group Holding Company (Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia) have established a 50:50 joint venture ethylene amines production facility at Jubail in Saudi Arabia. The joint venture, Arabian Amines Company, will operate the 27,000-ton-per-year facility, which is expected to begin commercial operations next month.
The new plant will manufacture diethylenetriamine (DETA); high molecular-weight products such as E-100, piperazine and tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA); and ethylenediamine. These specialty products will be manufactured using Huntsman's patented ethylene amines manufacturing technology. Huntsman also will hold exclusive technical services and sales rights for products manufactured at the facility. The new project is expected to help Huntsman consolidate its position as a global leader in amines chemistry and ethylene amines production. The specialty products manufactured at the plant will be used in lube oil, resins, epoxy curing agents, diesel and gasoline engines, fungicides and bleach activators.
In December 2009, the two companies signed an agreement to set up a joint venture to manufacture diglycolamine (DGA) agent and Morpholine at Jubail, based on Huntsman's proprietary technology. Huntsman has also licensed its maleic anhydride technology to International Diol Company (IDC) (Jubail). Saudi International Petrochemical Company (SAU:2310) (SIPCHEM) (Al-Khobar), Huntsman and Zamil Group are the stakeholders in IDC.
Zamil Group is a global investment company with interests in industrial manufacturing, petrochemicals, shipbuilding, processing, steel and construction. The group employs 12,000 people in 60 countries.
Huntsman Corporation is a leading name in the differentiated chemical products industry. The group's business interests span commercial licensing, polyurethanes, performance products, advanced materials, pigments and specialty products for textiles. Huntsman's products find application in the chemicals, agriculture, technology, footwear, construction, packaging, plastics, textiles and packaging industries.
In January, the polyurethanes business division of Huntsman set up a joint venture with Jurong City Ningwu Chemical Company Limited (Jurong City, China), which will undertake research, production and sales of polyether polyols.
