Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) (Santa Clara, California) plans to invest approximately $5 billion to upgrade four manufacturing plants in Arizona and Oregon.
The upgrades will occur at the Fab 12 and Fab 32 factories in Arizona and the D1C and D1D factories in Oregon. The upgrades will allow Intel to manufacture the company's first 22-nanometer microprocessors, which will be in production in late 2011 and will boost levels of performance and power efficiency.
CH2M Hill (Englewood, Colorado) is performing engineering on all four of the projects. The Beaverton, Oregon, office of Skanska USA Building Incorporation (Parsippany, New Jersey), part of Swedish construction company Skanska AB (Stockholm), is acting as general contractor on the Oregon projects. In Arizona, Hoffman Construction Company (Portland, Oregon) is performing general contracting work.
Intel makes approximately 10 billion transistors per second. While the company generates approximately three-fourths of its revenues overseas, Intel maintains three-fourths of its microprocessor manufacturing in the United States.
