Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Kawartha Ethanol Incorporated (Havelock, Ontario) is currently commissioning and testing equipment at the company's new fuel ethanol plant in Havelock, Ontario. The facility should be in full production within weeks.

Construction of the plant began in July 2007, and all of of the process equipment and storage systems are on-site and being installed. The process technology for the plant was provided by Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia), and JJ McGuire General Contractors (Pickering, Ontario) was awarded the design-build contract. Mechanical installations were handled by Adamson & Dobbin Limited (Peterborough, Ontario).

The plant will process more than 7 million bushels of corn annually to produce 80 million liters (21 million gallons) per year of fuel ethanol. The plant also features a closed-loop wastewater treatment system with zero wastewater discharge. The technology in the plant includes a unique microwaving process for distiller's grains that produces quality custom formulations of the feed additive and reduces operation costs compared to traditional drying processes.

The estimated $50 million plant is located in the rural farming community of Havelock, about 90 miles northeast of downtown Toronto.
