Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $6.25 billion of projects planned to kick off in the state of Maryland in the fourth quarter of 2016. Leading the way is the $5.6 billion planned Purple Line extension project, which will extend the commuter rail line 16 miles from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrolton in Prince George's County. The project is expected to be completed in early 2020.

In addition to this large project, other rail projects help lift the Industrial Manufacturing Industry to the top of the pack in regard to project kickoffs in Maryland during the fourth quarter, including the Tier 3 Rail Yard Rehabilitation Program by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, which involves the rehabilitation and upgrades of the Branch Avenue, Glenmont and Largo rail yards through equipment replacements, additions and rehabilitations plus supporting equipment and systems to extend the useful life of the rail yards to service the commuter rail system.

The $10 million speculative distribution center by Ridgeline Property Group also adds to the Industrial Manufacturing Industry's project value in the state. The 100,000-square-foot Class A distribution center is expected to be completed in late May 2017. A Food & Beverage Industry distribution center expansion by Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ:COST) (Issaquah, Washington) also adds to the state's construction tallies. Next to the existing 344,000-square-foot refrigerated and dry storage warehousing facility, a Phase II expansion will occur, consisting of construction of a 387,100-square-foot facility with 14 loading docks for e-commerce and for returning merchandise to vendors. Construction is expected to be completed in mid-July 2017.

Also featuring heavily in the area is the Power Industry. Among the largest projects in this industry is the Great Bay Solar Photovoltaic Facility, which is planned to begin construction early in the quarter and will entail building a 75-megawatt solar facility on a 1,000-acre site. Construction is expected to take approximately six months and be completed near the end of the first quarter of 2017. Great Bay Solar I LLC is part of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corporation (TSX:AQN) (Oakville, Ontario).
