New CDU/VDU at Polish Gdansk Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Grupa Lotos SA's (WAR:LTS) (Gdansk, Poland) 120,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in Gdansk is undergoing a major expansion project. The installation of a new atmospheric and vacuum distillation system (CDU/VDU) at the facility is finished and is undergoing the last phase of inspections. The unit will start processing on December 18. The new CDU/VDU crude oil throughput capacity is estimated to be 90,000 BBL/d.

All major contracts for design, equipment, and associated contractors with the expansion were signed in 2007. In addition to project management, Technip (EPA:TEC) (Paris, France) is performing the engineering and procurement services for the new 180-ton-per-hour solvent deasphalting unit. Technip is also providing the engineering, procurement, and construction services for the 45,000-BBL/d mild hydrocracking unit based on technology provided by Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands).
