NextEra Energy Begins Construction of $300 Million Windfarm Expansion in Iowa

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Story County Wind LLC (Garner, Iowa), a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources LLC (Juno Beach, Florida), which is itself part of FPL Group Incorporated (NYSE:FPL) (Juno Beach), has begun construction of the $300 million, 150-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Story County Wind Energy Center located near Zearing, Iowa.

Construction of the project began earlier in July and is scheduled to be completed and ready to commence full commercial operation by the spring of 2010. The project will consist of constructing an additional 100 1.5-MW General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) 1.5sle model wind turbine generators at the existing facility, which when operational, will add another 150 MW of generation capacity. Story County currently has enough energy to power more then 37,000 home, and the new expansion project will double the windfarm's capacity to 300 MW, providing enough renewable energy to power more than 75,000 Iowa homes.

DH Blattner & Sons (Avon, Minnesota) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for the duration of the construction.
