NTPC Seeks Bids for Cooling Water System Package for Lara Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--India's state-owned power producer NTPC Limited (BSE:532555) (New Delhi, India) is scouting for a vendor to supply and execute Cooling Water (CW) System to its 1,600-megawatt (MW) Lara Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-I, in Raigarh state of Chattisgarh. Due to be built in two stages plant will have a generation capacity of 4,000 MW through five units of 800 MW each.

NTPC has floated a global tender for this purpose. The power major intends to finance this package through both external commercial borrowings and the company's internal resources. According to NTPC, the scope for the contract will involve the design, manufacturing, engineering, inspection, testing of the supplier's work; and the packing, transportation to site, handling, storage, erection, supervision, pre-commissioning-testing, commissioning and performance testing of the CW system package, along with a supply of spares.

The major equipment to be supplied includes three CW pumps with associated motors of 44,000 cubic meters per hour (cum/hr) of discharge, operating at 333 rpm; five 2,800-millimeter hydraulically actuated butterfly valves; two 2,800- millimeter electrically actuated butterfly valve; five rubber expansion joint; air-release valves; a Gantry crane of 60 tons capacity; seal water pumps; drainage pumps and lubrication water system.

As per the pre-conditions laid down by NTPC, to qualify for this contract, a bidder must have designed, manufactured, supplied, erected and commissioned or supervised erection ad commissioning of at least two vertical wet pit pumps, concrete volute pumps or metallic volute pumps with concrete encasement of capacity 42,000 cum/hr, having specific speed in the range of 4,000-7,000 which should have been in successful operation for at least two years prior to the date of Techno-Commercial bid opening.

Additionally, in terms of financial standards, the average annual turnover of the bidder in the preceding three financial years should not be less than $1.5 million, and net worth should not be less than 25% of the paid-up share capital. The bid documents will be available for sale until August 16, 2013. The last date of submission of bids for this package is August 26, 2013. The power project will be entitled to "deemed export benefits" on the purchase of goods and equipment, under India's mega-power policy.

The power plant is located in Lara village, Raigarh district of Chattisgarh. The power plant will meet its coal requirement from Talaipalli Coal Block of Mand Raigarh coalfields. Coal will be transported through captive Merry Go Round (MGR) system. Water requirement for the plant will be met from the Mahanadi river.
