PacifiCorp Completes First Phase of 525-Megawatt Currant Creek Power Project in Utah

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). PacifiCorp (Portland, Oregon), a subsidiary of ScottishPower (NYSE:SPI), has completed construction and is performing commercial start-up testing for Phase One of the $348 million Currant Creek Power Project, located about 75 miles south of Salt Lake City, in Mona, Utah.

Construction for Phase One of the Currant Creek Power Project began in March of 2004 and was completed in May 2005. Commercial start-up is expected by the end of the month. Phase One of the combined-cycle project consists of two 170-megawatt (MW) GE Power Systems MS7001FA combustion turbine generators that will operate at a nominal 140 MW in simple-cycle mode. Phase Two will add two Vogt Power International Incorporated horizontal natural circulation, three-pressure level, supplementary-fired heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems and an oxidative catalyst (CO), and a GE D-11 condensing steam turbine generator, which will bring the total nameplate capacity up to 525 MW once completed in Fall 2005.

Stone & Webster, a subsidiary of The Shaw Group Incorporated (NYSE:SGR), is providing the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for the project under a $170 million contract.
