Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Point Beach Nuclear Station (Two Rivers, Wisconsin), which is owned by NextEra Energy Resources (Juno Beach, Florida), a subsidiary of FPL Group, Incorporated (NYSE:FPL), was brought offline on October 15, when the plant's 514-megawatt (MW) unit 02 was scheduled for a refuel outage. The plant confirmed that it experienced a problem that will extend the unit's outage by two weeks. The unit is now projected for December 2, if there are no other delays.
Point Beach station began operation in 1970. The nuclear plant has one other generating unit, which was operating at 60% early Wednesday morning November 18. The unit was reduced due to grass clogging the intake. The unit is expected to ramp back to full load on Wednesday evening. When at full load, the total generating capacity is 1,026 MW.
Next Era Energy Resources constructs and operates power plants to produce electricity. Next Era is the largest generator of wind and solar energy in North America, has approximately 17,000 MW of generating capacity in operation, and has nearly 90 facilities in operation in 25 states and Canada.
