Public Service of New Hampshire Chooses Program Manager for Merrimack Scrubber Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Public Service of New Hampshire has chosen the Washington Group (Princeton, New Jersey) as the program manager for the installation of a flue gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubber unit at its largest coal-fired station in New Hampshire, the Merrimack Power Station (Bow, New Hampshire).

The 458-megawatt bituminous coal plant is situated on the west bank of the Merrimack River. It includes two Babcock & Wilcox cyclone-fired wet bottom boilers and two Siemens (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) W steam turbine/generators, and two jet-fuel combustion turbines that are mainly used when demand is high. The facility's first unit came online in 1960, and the other came online in 1968.

The Washington Group will manage the implementation of operation, information management, supporting control and also in choosing specialty subcontractors for various tasks.

Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2009. One wet scrubber will be built to serve the two coal units, with completion expected in 2011.
