Repsol's La Plata Refinery in Argentina Postpones Start-Up of FCCU

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Repsol YPF's (NYSE:REP) (Madrid, Spain) La Plata refinery in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is undergoing a revamp and maintenance shutdown in fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) 2. The modifications are being made to change the unit's feedstock from diesel fuel distillate to a crude distillate. KBR Incorporated (NYSE:KBR) (Houston, Texas) was awarded a contract for the $20 million project. Revamp and maintenance work began on June 6 and had been scheduled to end by July 16; however, the unit's start-up date was postponed because of bad weather conditions in Argentina that prevented maintenance teams from performing a major hoist.

A maintenance shutdown was also performed in the fractionating, claus, delayed coker B and gas concentration units. These units are scheduled to resume operation along with the FCCU.

The 187,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) La Plata refinery began operation in 1925 and is Repsol's largest refinery in Argentina. Also in the country, Repsol owns the 25,000-BBL/d Plaza Huincul refinery in Neuquen and the 114,000-BBL/d Lujan de Cuyo refinery in Mendoza. The company also has a 50% stake in the 26,000-BBL/d Campo Duran refinery in Salta.
