On March 3, the El Alto City plant shipped the 18-megawatt (MW) Unit 2, a Rolls-Royce Avon 1535 gas turbine, to Aberdeen for maintenance. The 36-MW thermal plant is operated by Compania Boliviana de Energia Electrica (La Paz, Bolivia), which has 10 hydropower plants in the Bolivian Zongo Valley, four in the Miguillas Valley and a small hydroelectric plant and Kenko thermoelectric plant in La Paz. Together, the plants produce about 240.5 MW.

After Unit 2 is back online, Unit 1 will be sent to Aberdeen for the same maintenance, which will last approximately four months.
