"The Clueless Are Leading the Blindfolded" into an Economic Winter

The truth is that there is less money around, sales are down, people are worried, and some are losing jobs because the stock prices finally got so high that buyers stopped buying.

Released Thursday, April 24, 2008

Beware the clueless sell-side analysts who have made zero money and have been wrong all the time, as they regurgitate companies' blindfolded fantasies about their own future sales and orders -- all the while ignoring the cyclical economic downturn.

Click to Listen to Daniel Frishberg's Podcast Do you think that sounds a bit harsh? Not if you are BizRadio's MoneyMan Daniel Frishberg, a street-wise, 50-year veteran of Wall Street who has the perspective, honesty and vision to see this economy as what it is: a long uncomfortable winter season that hurts but will eventually be replaced by spring, summer and fall. It's not a bad thing. It's not going to tumble down forever. It's winter.

The truth is that there is less money around, sales are down, people are worried, and some are losing jobs because the stock prices finally got so high that buyers stopped buying. The market goes through cycles. Companies like General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) are saying that although the economy is down and no one is buying anything, they are doing just fine. Right up until the day that the orders are canceled and payments are missed. Then, they and the clueless sell-side analysts are forced to adjust their forecasts downward.

Don't believe the "Everything is fine" story peddled by companies, analysts and pundits. You realize what's really happening. It's just another cycle. So follow Mr. Frishberg's lead: Wait until the lowest, darkest point of our economic winter and then think about buying. We know that spring always follows winter. It's just easy to forget when you are freezing in the dark.
