Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the successful kickoff of the boiler steel frame erection on March 1, 2012, Anhui Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Company (AEPC1) (Hefei, Anhui), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), completed the concrete placement for the steam turbine base of Unit 2 in Phase I of Guodian Karamay Thermal Power Company Limited's (GKTPC) (Karamay, Xinjiang) Karamay Cogeneration Project on June 3, according to an announcement from the CEEC on June 7.
The steam turbine base is a key and critical work in the power plant. The steam turbine base for Unit 2 is placed in three stages. The placement completed on June 3 is the last stage, with a total volume of 540 cubic meters.
The Karamay Cogeneration Project, located in the Petroleum and Chemical Industrial Park of Karamay, has a total planned capacity of 1,400 megawatt-class coal-fired units for combined heat and power (CHP) supply in Karamay, an important oil city in western China. Of which, 700 megawatts (MW) of supercritical, direct air-cooling, pump-condensing CHP units, together with flue-gas desulfuration and nitrogen emission controls, will be built in Phase I.
As a fully owned subsidiary of Guodian Xinjiang Power Company Limited (Urumqi, Xinjiang), the GKTPC was established for the construction of the project in May 2010. The project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation on April 27, 2011. In order to meet the increasing power demand of PetroChina's 10 million-metric-ton oil refining expansion project in Karamay, purchasing and site preparation of the project kicked off immediately after the receiving of the preliminary approval.
AEPC1 won the bid for the construction and erection of Unit 2, as well as the coal-handling and preparation system of the project in early 2011. Construction of Unit 2 kicked off on June 8, 2011. Unit 1 of the project was contracted to Shandong Electric Power Construction No.3 Engineering Company Limited (Qingdao, Shandong). According to the schedule, the first unit of the project will begin operations in December this year, and the second unit will begin operation in March 2013. However, the project is still subject to the final approval of the National Development and Reform Commission before it can be put into operation.
