Puerto Rico Moves Forward with Development of Photovoltaic and Energy-Storage Plants

CORDOBA, ARGENTINA--February 7, 2024--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Last month, Genera PR LLC (San Juan, Puerto Rico), which is in charge of the operation and maintenance of the thermal generation plants of the state-owned PREPA GenCo until 2033, launched a call for bids for the installation of 430 megawatts (MW) of battery energy storage systems (BESS). In total, nine storage units with capacities between 8 and 104 MW will be installed in PREPA GenCo's different generation plants. The company will be receiving proposals until the end of March, and the contract is expected to be signed in May. Construction work may begin at the end of the year.
