Zero Nuclear Power in Japan as Mandatory Inspection Shutdowns Kick In

JOHANNESBURG--September 5, 2013--Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--For the second time since the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster, all of Japan's commercial nuclear power plants are offline. On Tuesday, Kanai Electric Power Company's Unit 3 at the OHI nuclear plant was shut down for regular inspections, which are mandated every 13 months. Unit 4 at Ohi is also scheduled for inspection at the end of next week, leaving the grid with zero nuclear power input. Both units are 1,180-megawatt (MW) pressurized water reactors.
