SUGAR LAND--October 25, 2016--Written by John Egan for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Seven Texas coal-fired power plants with a total output of 8,100 megawatts (MW) are not financially viable and may be forced to close sooner rather than later, according to a recent report from an energy analysis firm. These plants represent about 40% of the coal-fired generating capacity in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) (Austin, Texas), the Lone Star State's grid operator.
