P-78 has a capacity of 180,000 BBL/d and 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day and is connected to 13 wells: six producers and seven injectors.
"With the first oil from P-78, we started the year already making progress toward our main goal for 2026: increasing Petrobras' oil and gas production. We plan to produce 2.5 million barrels of oil per day throughout this year, and much of it will come from Buzios, the country's largest field in terms of reserves and production," said Petrobras' president, Magda Chambriard.
Besides P-78, the platforms already operational at the Buzios field are: P-74, P-75, P-76, P-77, FPSO Almirante Barroso, and FPSO Almirante Tamandare. All of them have a production capacity of 150,000 BBL/d, except for the latter, which can produce up to 225,000 BBL/d.
Buzios is currently Brazil's largest producing oil field. In November, the latest available data, the field reached oil production of 744,000 BBL/d, down from the 885,000 BBL/d produced in October, the field's record, according to the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). In October, the field produced 1.12 million barrels of oil equivalent (Boe/d), including gas volumes.
Petrobras also forecast the deployment of four additional platforms at Buzios, from the seven already operational, by 2027, which would bring production capacity to approximately 2 million BBL/d. Petrobras has launched the contracting process of another platform, Buzios 12 (P-91), which could begin operations beyond 2030.
In November, pre-salt volumes accounted for 79.58% of the total, while in October, they accounted for 81.4%.
Despite its high volumes, the Brazil is expected to continue breaking production records as companies such as Petrobras, Shell (London, England), and Equinor (Stavanger, Norway) invest in the country. Industrial Info is tracking 565 crude oil production projects in Brazil, worth US$41.84 billion.

Summary
The newest platform at the offshore Buzios field begins production, increasing capacity to 1.15 million BBL/d. Another four platforms are expected to be deployed at the asset by 2027, as Brazil continues to dominate the oil play in South America.Buzios Field's Output
Petrobras (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has announced the first oil from the P-78 platform, the seventh production platform at the Buzios oil field in the Santos Basin offshore Rio de Janeiro. With P-78, the field will reach an operational oil production capacity of 1.15 million barrels of oil per day (BBL/d).P-78 has a capacity of 180,000 BBL/d and 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day and is connected to 13 wells: six producers and seven injectors.

Brazilian Oil Production
In November, the South American country produced 3.77 million BBL/d of oil, 13.8% more than in the same month in 2024, but just below the 4.03 million BBL/d recorded in October, the country's record. Over time, Brazil has become the region's largest hydrocarbon producer, driven by the development of its pre-salt and post-salt areas. In November, pre-salt volumes accounted for 79.58% of the total, while in October, they accounted for 81.4%.
