Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Canadian renewable energy company Boralex (Kingsey Falls, Quebec) announced Wednesday it has acquired EDF Renewables North America's (EDF Renewables) (San Diego, California) 50% interest in five operational windfarms with a total installed capacity of 894 megawatts (MW). Industrial Info is tracking $3 billion worth of projects from Boralex, including nearly $1.6 billion in the U.S., and 11 projects worth $9.6 billion attributed to the North American clean energy-generation unit of Électricité de France (EDF) (Paris, France).

"This acquisition perfectly pairs with Boralex's organic development activities in the United States," the company said in a press release; it bumps the company's total installed capacity worldwide to 2,956 MW
As part of its 2025 Strategic Plan, the company aims for that capacity to reach 4.4 gigawatts (GW) by 2025 and 10-12 GW by 2030; 45% of the planned capacity in 2030 would be in the U.S.
All of Boralex's current U.S. project activity is in New York, which includes the proposed $350 million Fort Covington solar-plus-storage project. The project, which is expected to be commissioned in fourth-quarter 2025, entails constructing a photovoltaic (PV) solar facility with a capacity of 250 MW, and a 77-MW battery energy storage system (BESS). Two other projects under development are the 120-MW, $192 million Greens Corner Solar PV Plant in Watertown, and the $150 million Newport PV Solar Plant in Marcy. In the acquisition-related press release, Boralex's acquisition partner EDF Renewables' Chief Financial Officer Luis Silva said, the "divestures provide an opportunity to rebalance our portfolio of owned assets." The press release notes EDF Renewables has 24 GW of developed projects in its portfolio, and the company website notes a 34-GW pipeline of future projects.
Industrial Info is tracking three such projects that are in their early planning stages, with each kickoff planned for the first quarter of 2024: the proposed $850 million SB solar-plus-storage project in Beatty, Nevada, which would feature a 500-MW generating capacity and a 250-MW lithium-ion battery-storage system; the 255-MW Livingston Windfarm in Pontiac, Illinois; and the Bullhead solar-plus-storage project in Bakersfield, California. Subscribers can see reports for the SB, Livingston and Bullhead projects.
