Chrysler to go All Electric

Chrysler is jumping into the electric vehicle arena.

Released on Monday, January 10, 2022
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--World automobile production has been slowly transitioning to all-electric vehicle (EV) production, with several car manufacturers progressing to fully electric fleets by the 2030s. A relative latecomer to EV production, Chrysler (Auburn Hills, Michigan) recently announced it will launch its first battery-electric vehicle in 2025, reviving the Airflow nameplate from the 1930s.

The company also announced it is targeting a transition of its entire vehicle lineup to EV models by 2028, according to IndustryWeek and other news sources.

"The Chrysler Airflow Concept represents the future direction of the Chrysler brand, providing a peek at the dynamic design, advanced technologies and seamless connectivity that will characterize the full-electric portfolio we plan to reach by 2028," said Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand chief executive officer for parent company Stellantis N.V. (Amsterdam, Netherlands), in a January 5 press release.

Chrysler's plans are a part of Stellantis' $35 billion electrification investment through 2025, with the goal of having at least 40% of its vehicle sales in the U.S. comprising electric vehicles by 2030. Stellantis also owns the Dodge, Ram, Jeep, and Maserati brands, among others.

Industrial Info is tracking two projects, valued at $1.35 billion, in general retooling and modernization projects for Chrysler in the U.S. More investments are expected as Chrysler gears up to realize its goals.
